Maggie joined our family in May, 1997. It was through Maggie that my association with Guide Dogs of America and the High Desert Labrador Retriever Club of Ca., Inc., began. Maggie's sire is a Guide Dogs of America stud dog. Two of her littermates became GDA puppies in training. Being sight impaired myself, I understand how much a seeing eye dog would enrich the life of a blind person. Maggie and I have enjoyed supporting GDA together. One way is to participate annually in the L.A. Dog Jog, which is a benefit charity dog walk where all proceeds are donated to GDA.
Maggie earned her American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen certificate in August of 1998. We worked hard throughout basic obedience in order to both graduate and earn the certificate. I was very proud of Maggie the night she officially became a Canine Good Citizen. When Maggie was 10 months old, she was diagnosed with a hypothyroid and food allergies. Initially, these conditions were difficult to gain control of, but I'm happy to report that Maggie now enjoys good health. I have included links on these health concerns, as well as others, on "My Favorite Links" page. I would like to thank Donna Giguere and Roxann Jay, Camelot Labradors, for allowing Maggie to become part of our family.
